Baru seminggu punya akun di PayPal eh udah ada yang iseng ngirimin saya fraudulent email. Email dengan subject ‘Your PayPal ID has been suspended’ ini cukup bikin saya agak kaget. Lah khan saya udah verify dari seminggu lalu dan PayPal juga udah verify akun saya. Intinya, ga ada masalah gitu. Eniwei, saya langsung curiga cuz didalem email tersebut ada link yang harus diklik. Setau saya, PayPal gak akan suruh kita ngeklik apapun didalem email. Apalagi email ‘aneh’ ini juga meminta data2 saya. Berikut ini emailna:

Mungkin dalam hal beginian saya ga berpengalaman sama sekali dan baru sekali ini dapet jenis email seperti ini. Bisa dibilang saya cukup bego sama hal2 beginian. Tapi biar bego, untung ga ceroboh2 amat dengan langsung ngeklik link tersebut. Satu keanehan: PayPal located in US, ngapain juga tuh link kok berbuntut .it? Dan setelah membaca ‘Protect Yourself From Fraudulent Emails’ na PayPal, makin yakinlah saya kalo email yg kuterima itu jenis email tipu2. Intinya:

1. PayPal tidak akan pernah kirim email ke kita dengan dibagian greeting ada salutation seperti ini: Dear Member, Dear PayPal User, yah sejenis2 itu lah. PayPal akan langsung nyebut nama lengkap kita di emailna.

2. PayPal tidak akan meminta data2 personal kita di email dan hanya akan memberitahukan saja dan akan meminta data kita setelah kita log in ke akun PayPal kita.

3. PayPal tidak menyertakan link didalam email kita dan tidak akan pernah mengirim attachment. Fraudulent email biasanya menyertakan link2 yang kalo kita klik, kemungkinan besar adalah virus or kita akan dirujuk ke situs laen dimana kita diminta mengisi data2 personal kita.

Untuk lebih meyakinkan saya, email tersebut saya forward ke PayPal dan dalam beberapa jam balasan yang saya terima adalah sebagai berikut:

Jadi, hati2 dengan email yang anda terima, jangan asal ngeklik2 yah. Apalagi dengan email2 yang meminta data2 personal anda dan merujuk anda ke satu situs tertentu yang mungkin tidak ada hubungannya. So, kejahatan ada dimana-mana. WASPADALAH! WASPADALAH!
